I’ve been meaning to catch up with you guys for a while now, but every time I pull up this blog I’m greeted with Ginger’s tiny little munchkin face, and then I can’t seem to think about anything else but how much I miss our dog.
Ginger died about two weeks ago from something called pug dog encephilitis. It’s a swelling of the brain that is specific to pugs. Her illness was the cause of her circling, running into walls, blindness, loss of muscle-control, and all-around strangeness. She had been showing signs since May, but we were in a little bit of denial that anything was wrong with her. I think she was gone from the moment she had her first seizure, and I hope she wasn’t too scared. We talked about bringing her home from the vet that Friday so that she could spend one more weekend with us, but we didn’t want her to suffer any longer. She was confused and blind, and very sick at that point. So, Frank, Sean and I went to the vet to say goodbye.
I still miss her wandering around the house under my feet. I don’t know how many times a day you could hear me saying “Sorry Ginger,” because I had accidentally kicked her. She liked to be close to me. I liked to be close to her, and we all miss her a lot.
But as they say, life goes on. Frank is more spoiled than ever. Sean and I have been eating well, and making a lot of cool stuff. We’ve had friends in town. We’ve had so much beer that I feel like I might actually need a day or two off from the drinking (I’ll feel differently about 5 tonight.) Sean had a birthday. We went to a wedding.
Life is still good, but there will always be a little hole in my heart that Ginger used to inhabit.
